Drinking Driver Task Force

Who we are and what we do?

City of Kent Police Department Drinking Driver Task Force began in 1983 when a group of people looking at the effects of alcohol related fatalities, injuries, collisions and property loss in Kent, became alarmed and took action. Former Mayor Isabel Hogan appointed 48 community members including junior/senior high and college students, to the Drinking Driver Task Force. Then manager of City Beverages, Ford Keene, served as the Task Force Chair. Sponsored by the Kent Police Department and supported in part by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the task force began their work.

With a goal to significantly reduce the incidents of excessive drinking and driving in Kent, they brainstormed ways to provide education, public relations and enforcement. Today the task force encompasses many traffic safety issues through numerous programs with the vision:

Kent Citizens make informed decisions and healthy choices, and model positive life skills behavior; and the mission: to move people safely throughout Kent.
