Major Projects
Considering an ordinance to allow up to two quality projects to be built in higher density residential areas of the city.
Two proposals were received before the July 31, 2009 due date.
Collaboratively planning with the City of Des Moines to set the stage for the revitalization of the area saddled around Pacific Highway.
Revising policies and rules for development and uses associated with important shoreline environments.
City Council adopted the updated SMP on September 15, 2009. The updated SMP became effective with State Department of Ecology approval on February 11, 2010.
Considering wide-ranging options to change zoning and development rules for commercial and mixed-use projects.
Planning Services is assisted by a Hearing Examiner and the Land Use & Planning Board in the completion of its duties. The Hearing Examiner reviews and approves certain land use permit applications following public hearings required by City ordinance. in some cases (such as rezones), the Hearing Examiner makes a recommendation to the City Council. The Land Use and Planning Board - a seven member board of lay citizens- reviews and recommends proposed policy changes, including amendments to development codes and the comprehensive plan.
