Utility rate reductions
The City of Kent offers utility rate reductions for eligible senior citizens and disabled persons based on income and place of residence. The eligibility criteria for the Lifeline rate is established by the City Council. For more information call (253) 856-5201.
Lifeline utility rates
Lifeline water rate - 2013
$.59 per unit - inside the city limits
$.65 per unit - outside the city limits
Lifeline sewer rate - 2013
$52.49 per month effective 1/1/13
Lifeline storm drainage - 2013
$0.92 per month - inside the city limits
No charge if outside the city limits.
Lifeline solid waste rate - 2013
50% of the monthly rate
Who is eligible for the program?
- Senior, 62 or older and/or
- Disabled persons (a physician's statement of verification of disability) receiving permanent disability payments from SSI, SSDA, Veterans etc.
- Total household income shall not exceed the limits as set annually by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (listed below)
- You and your spouse/tenant must be responsible for payment of utility bills and living at the address receiving services or you must reside in a rental unit served directly by Kent Utilities.
What determines total household income?
Total household income is the disposable income of yourself, your spouse, and that of any other tenants living in the home. Some examples of disposable income include:
- Wages, salaries, and tips
- Interest and dividends
- IRA withdrawals
- Social Security benefits
- Business income
- Pension and annuity receipts
- Governmental assistance
