This section contains a partial list of recycling and reuse services in the Kent area and does not constitute an endorsement of any business. Some recyclers provide pick-up services; others only accept materials dropped off at their facility. Fees may apply.
Services, business contact information, materials accepted and fees may change. Please call the individual businesses to verify information.
If your business provides a reuse or recycling option for Kent residents and is not included on this list, please call 253-856-5549 or e-mail us to be included on future versions. Also, please let us know if you notice anything that needs to be updated or corrected.

In general, King County does not accept major appliances for garbage disposal because they can be recycled or reused. Some appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, also contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are regulated under the federal Clean Air Act. These items cannot be disposed of and should be recycled. Recycling these appliances helps ensure that CFCs and other refrigerants are safely removed for recycling or disposal and are not released into the atmosphere.

Petroleum products such as motor oil are not accepted at King County transfer stations, even in household quantities. The King County Solid Waste Division recommends that motor oil containers be emptied completely before disposing of empty containers. Residents may recycle used oil at local automotive supply stores. Used oil may also be disposed of at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Sites.
Motor vehicle batteries, also known as lead-acid batteries, are not accepted at King County transfer stations. Instead, these materials must be recycled or disposed of at a licensed treatment, storage and disposal (TSD) facility.
Vehicles and major vehicle parts can be taken to metal recyclers or salvage or wrecking yards for recycling and disposal.

Many household batteries, also known as dry-cell batteries, can contain levels of mercury and other materials that make them dangerous waste when disposed. Residents can take rechargeable batteries (look for the symbol on the battery) to retail locations that participate in the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). Visit www.rbrc.org or call 1-800-8BATTERY for more information. Button batteries (includes small button or coin-sized batteries used in watches, digital thermometers, hearing aids, etc.) are not allowed in the trash and must be recycled. Alkaline batteries can be placed in the trash, although some retail businesses accept them for recycling.
