Annexation Effective July 1, 2010

Kent is about to become the sixth largest city in the state. A plan to add approximately 24,000 people to Kent – growing its population from 88,380 to 112,380 was passed by voters last November with a simple majority of 3,330 to 2,574, roughly 56 percent to 43 percent.

Special Annexation Census

As part of the annexation process, the State of Washington requires that the City conduct a census of all homes in the annexation area. The information gathered from this census is very important because State funding is based on an accurate count, ensuring that Kent receives its full share of funds for providing essential City services.

A census worker wearing a City of Kent identification badge will visit households between June 17 and July 17.  The only information required in this census is the names of all individuals residing in a household.

This special annexation census is in addition to the U.S. Census conducted by the Federal Census Bureau earlier this spring; they are separate counts.

Annexation area residents may also provide this information directly, at any time, by calling the Kent Census Hotline at 1-800-635-6594.  The Census Hotline is available 24 hours a day.  All information provided will be held strictly confidential.

Please note that this census will NOT require you to provide your social security number, credit card numbers, account numbers or require you to pay any fees.  Legitimate census workers will have identification badges and can provide you with a phone number to call if you'd like to verify their identities.
