"Envision Midway" Planning Complete

To prepare for the future Sound Transit Link light rail station, the Cities of Kent and Des Moines have completed Envision Midway, an effort to consider and design a future that will foster economic revitalization of the area around Pacific Highway South. Centrally located between Seattle and Tacoma, the area offers spectacular views of Puget Sound to the west and the Kent Valley and Cascade Mountains to the east.  Pacific Highway South (SR-99) is the commercial spine of Midway, and Highline Community College serves as an anchor for activity. 

   

Even with all of this great potential, Midway is ready for a facelift.  Today, many of the commercial buildings are outdated and some streets need upgraded curbs, gutters, sidewalks and street trees to make it a desirable hub: compatible with the new transit-oriented community envisioned in the Midway Subarea Plan.  The Midway Design Guidelines and Development Regulations implement the vision found in the subarea plan.
